Bradford Middleton… When the Job’s Done

When the Job’s Done

The girls move in quick as a new, flash car slows down
It’s midnight, Friday in the kinkiest lane
In the dingiest city in the unfair land
The girls are like vultures
Desperate for their next feast
The one to pay the rent and feed her habit
She grabs the car handle as he lowers the window
He smiles broadly as his eyes devour her figure

And she climbs in

Things get serious fast
Money is discussed and a place to crash
It’s going to be a long job
He sounds like a kinky bastard
But after a few hours she leaves, paid, happy
Knowing for a few days her habit will be feed
And the rent will be paid up
The threat of eviction banished for another month.

Bradford Middleton lives on England’s south-coast in Brighton. Margaret Roncone… I’m Going to Moscow

I’m Going to Moscow

to trudge through snow

I will continue until

steeple clocks

stop chiming

I will wear

scratchy shirts

read Tolstoy

find his orchard

take a bite of a wormy apple

offer the rest to a sleigh driver

in a topcoat

his red worn hands

at the reins of a
horse
I will steal.

Margaret Roncone was born in Rochester N.Y., found her hearthome in Seattle. Wrote poetry in high school and was encouraged by a lay teacher surrounded by a swarm of nuns. Finds inspiration in frequent bus rides; hosts an open mic in Uptown.

A.J. Huffman… Maudlin

Maudlin

Mood
descends
like curtains on a final
act of some Shakespearean
tragedy.
Heavy
is the feeling that echoes
as silence. Suffocating
darkness, verging on impenetrable. Shadows
of belligerent light seep through.
Remnants of hope, unreachable,
taunt eyes that long to become

accustomed to the dominant

gloom.

A.J. Huffman has published eleven solo chapbooks and one joint chapbook through various small presses. Her new full-length poetry collection, Another Blood Jet, is now available from Eldritch Press. She has another full-length poetry collection, A Few Bullets Short of Home, scheduled for release in Summer 2015, from mgv2>publishing. She is a Pushcart Prize nominee, and has published over 2000 poems in various national and international journals, including Labletter, The James Dickey Review, Bone Orchard, EgoPHobia, and Kritya. She is also the founding editor of Kind of a Hurricane Press. http://www.kindofahurricanepress.com
